About GT Energy
GT Energy was established in 2007 to explore, lead and drive opportunities in the deep geothermal energy sector. We aim to identify and develop deep geothermal energy resources as heat or power projects and to demonstrate the commercial and environmental benefits of such ventures.
In 2008, GT Energy identified and proved the existence of a significant deep geothermal resource at Newcastle, Co. Dublin. This was confirmed at the completion of the drilling of two boreholes to over 1.4km in depth. A temperature gradient of 32.40 C per km was confirmed.
Building on this success GT Energy entered into a Technology Partnership Agreement with ESB International to combine resources with a view to the development of Ireland and the UK’s first deep geothermal power generation facility at Newcastle, Co. Dublin. Full planning permission for this project was granted in January 2011.
We are consistently viewed as the partner of choice for a growing number of local authorities in Ireland, Northern Ireland and the United Kingdom who are interested in developing indigenous renewable energy solutions within their communities.
In 2011, having established core strengths in the identification, assessment and delivery of combined geothermal heat and power generation projects, GT Energy established its biomass CHP business with the aim of delivering heat and electricity to communities and urban locations across Ireland and the UK.
